N.T. Wright on “Justification”

  1. This is fascinating. I am not certain why this was posted here, whether it was in support of N.T.Wright’s book or as an example of consumer minded marketing, but the piece is simply brilliant, especially when looked at through the lens of consumerism and a consumer influenced church. (Brief preface: this is in no way a comment about N.T. Wright or his books.)

    Never mind the fact that this is a sales pitch. One of the last statements N.T.Wright makes on the video is, “The point about justification is not about that the spotlight is on me all the time.” Then, as the camera tilts up the interior of the cathedral creating an illusion of majesty, the book fades in revealing his name in a large font (the largest on the cover) completely overwhelming the nail/spike that, presumably references the piercing of Jesus’ wrists and feet. The name also dwarfs the word that states the topic of the book. It IS his name that sells the book and NOT the topic. This then quickly closes and fades to black where we immediately see a link to the publisher. Simply brilliant.
